Reluctant Ambassador From the Planet of Midnight - my address on race in the literature of the fantastic at ICFA 2010

This February, I was an author guest at the International Conference of the Fantastic in the Arts.  The theme for this year's conference was race in the literature of the fantastic.  I gave a lunchtime address to the gathering.  Thank you much to my partner, David Findlay, who videotaped it for me on very short notice, as well as doing impromptu costume design.  Here's a copy of the video.  It doesn't play in the browser; you have to download it.  Please don't distribute it or upload it to YouTube, or anything like that; leave that for me to do, if at all.  I'm upgrading my website soon, and at that point I hope to add an embedded version of the video.  Thank you too to deepad and coffeeandink for making the smaller (82MB) version of the video.  Click on one or the other link to download.

Whoops; thought I'd replied to this request. My apologies. I can't post the text because it's about to be published. It'll be in the next issue of the Journal of the International Association of the Fantastic in the Arts.

Thanks so much for sharing

Thanks so much for sharing this!

Thank you for posting the

Thank you for posting the video of your address, which I heard at the ICFA luncheon. Fascinating. What I'm actually looking for, however, is the TEXT of the speech. I process the printed word more thoroughly than the spoken word, which (even when recorded for replaying) has a certain ephemeral quality. While we're waiting for the speech to be reproduced (I hope) in a future issue of JFA, it would be lovely if you'd upload the text.
